Re: 17 year old daughter having a 'but first' year..

Tell her not to worry too much what other people think she should do...it's what she wants to do that is important and I don't think I know any 17-year-old who knows what direction they want to go in. Best thing to do is take general courses (get them out of the way) and when she feels something that peeks her interest go for it. My Kimmi has already changed her mind 3-4 times already.

The best thing you can do is buy her every book by Ayn Rand in existence and teach her to think for herself. That way, unless she wants to be a hair stylist she will have income, and a brain. It's a win win.

I have spent the last 17 years HELPING her think! MOST fathers of 17 year old girls have been written off by now!

I have never pushed her to 'think what I think'. I just think what I think and let her 'See for herself' what happens when someone thinks that way.

I have a better 'relationship' with her than the wife does. Wife has the tendency to 'push her opinions', where I KNOW that that does NOT work with a teen!

My Father was a 'Low gear' kinda guy. He only expressed his opinion (1) time on a situation, but he waited for a question before his answer was offered.

I WISH that I had asked MORE QUESTIONS!!! That Man was SMART!!

I just thank GOD that I have maintained the relationship with this girl that I have!

She is a GREAT kid!! A BEAUTIFUL young lady and a wonderful person!

How many fathers of 17 year old girls still feel that way???
( Reflecting back on co-workers kids) NOT many!!

Had all 3 daughters with me on Sunday!!

Group 'HUG!!' We stood at the garage an 'discussed' mom's behavior. It almost came to the point where all three girls walked in at the same time and watched the facial expressions.
They were curious if it would be a smile or a frown, of a 'mona-lisa thing.
TWO of them came from her. one was with me when we hooked up.
HER 2 are OK, but MINE is a different matter.

I spent some time with the 17 year old a while ago.

She mentioned that 'Mom has a favorite'. I asked her if Dad had a favorite? She said that she didn't know.

THAT is the goal!! THAT is the secret!! IF you have a 'favorite', NO ONE KNOWS!!
