FMIC or TMIC

well, i'm at a crossroad. need to figure out if I want to do a FMIC or a TMIC. The one in the pic is from a newer WRX, i just put it there for measurement reasons. FMIC, need a new bumper, TMIC need a hood or at least a scoop to cut in. Hmmm, decisions.........

Depends how big you want it. You wanna use the stock WRX IC might as well leave it on top. Piping a FMIC might prove to be a bit more challenge, but it seems that is the name of the game. You can buy a hood or bumper in exactly the fashion you'd need for either.
I'd rest the decision on how big of an IC you end up using.

everyone with a wrx upgrdes to a fmic...the whole point to putting a wrx motor in an svx is to have an aftermarket, no?

go fmic, and try to open up the bumper a bit for more airflow. Mabey relocate the licence plate, cut out the mounting for it, and put a lower lip to to scoop more air int the lower portion

FMIC is viewed better as it puts the intercooler in direct air. If you choice to do that, then get a "Euro" front bumper. http://svx-motorsport-accessories.st...svxeufrbu.html

If you go with the top mount (less air, not as effecient, cheaper plumbing) go with the hood scoop hood. http://svx-motorsport-accessories.st...t/svxfiho.html

Hope that helps.

The whole reason WRX guys upgrade to front mounts is to reduce the massive heat soak a top mount sees under driving conditions. The only reason you should stay with a top mount is if you either don't have the money for a front mount, or can't put a front mount in due to severe space restraints. As tight as an SVX is in the engine bay area, you can get a front mount in.

he can easily fit the FMIC in, that engine looks tiny compared to ours...

Holy hell yea....you've got enough room to do a full DTM laydown with ducting through the hood Yea, don't even waste your time with the top mount if you have enough funds for a front mount.

I'm actually selling two stock Evo 9 front mount intercoolers over the net on the DSM forums. If you're interested, they're $120 each shipped. You can view an ad for them on the DSM tuners forums here:

I'd say don't bother with the typical FMIC location. Built a custom rad mount to move the rad as close to the engine as possible, and stick the intercooler in front of the rad, inside the engine bay.

Put it between the cooler and the rad. Or get rid of it. It just adds weight anyway.

would not doing this swap and using a stand alone be easy? I mean doing it as a track only car...

From this angle that TMIC looks almost worthless and youhave enough room it would be silly not to do front mount.
