The day has come....
Subaru has updated its website with new 2008 models and its very sad to see no more Outback sedans and Legacy wagons. I surely miss them a lot. Just wanna share my feelings... ...
I think we should give a memorable tribute to these awesome models which came a long way in building subaru's brand name. Remember the Legacy wagons from 90s and outback sedans from late 90s... The recent Legacy wagons are one of the hottest wagons even on track with their wide wheelbase and low ground clearance and sporty style/performance while outback sedans always stood up to be different looking 4-door vehicles by sharing their platform with their basic wagon model and high ground clearance. I feel sad for Legacy wagon..... Outback sedan Also seems like Subaru is still having a back stock of Baja models from 2006. -Pavan. Last edited by pavanbabut; 06-30-2007 at 09:00 PM. |

That makes me sad too! How will they ever replace them?

Word on the street is, the Outback will become it's own car, the new Baja being based on this.
All just speculation really.

I am not getting wht Subaru's strategic plans are... why cant they just provide them both in wagon and sedan options.. like MB does for their E class.... shame on Subaru...rather than Outback sedan version, they are loosing a good chunk of enthusiasts for legacy wagon...
Maybe is this due to tht stupid Toyota, for making room to camry and other stupid models assembling.... -Pavan. |

I was so scared that you were gonna say they re-designed them like they did the impreza. I really REALLY liked the Legacy wagon.

Hmmm, well I don't think that subaru or any other car maker is that stupid to remove a part of his successful line without looking to the $$$ behind it.
Maybe subaru saw a new strategy for profit making through downsizing the line up a little bit... in the end, the outback and the legacy are almost identical (well the outback has a higher suspension...). I think Subaru should focus on only 1 small size cars (impreza), 1 middle size cars (legacy or outback), sports cars (new SVX?? ), a real SUV (a more successful tribeca) and probably in the future introduce a luxury line up (as infinity and lexus) to the market... But really I think it is a good move what subaru did, because having a Legacy wagon, the outback wagon and the forester is... is... just too confusing! there is no real identity for these three models

the truth is, i don't see a lot of Legacy wagons, and especially Legacy turbo wagons - the majority of the wagons i see are Outbacks. yeah, some enthusiasts like their turbo LGT wagons, but its probably not enough to justify selling them.
if it doesn't sell well after a period of time, it gets axed. that's just Business 101, plain and simple. Pavan, i don't see a Legacy wagon or Outback sedan in your signature. remember the SVX? it didn't sell, and ....<whack!> .... got kicked to the curb.

I've not been the market for a new car in years but have heard complaints that Subaru dealerships (and others, surely) stock no lower trim levels. If you want a no-frills Legacy wagon with a five speed you've got to order it, then wait. Raise the ride height of that Legacy, add some plastic cladding and a few other doodads, call it an Outback and park dozens of 'em on your lot and folks will plunk down thousands more per unit. Makes business sense.
As to the Outback sedan, I suspect it doesn't sell well because a sedan just can't sport the popular SUV/crossover/wagon-on-steroids look. dcb |

But if you take MB, you dont see that many E wagons as you see E sedans, still MB continues to provide E wagons in its line-up. Anyway we can't make any difference now, except to feel sad about those nice models, after all its their high-level decision. -Pavan Last edited by pavanbabut; 07-02-2007 at 09:05 AM. |

MB also offers convertibles, sport coupes, and V12 engines, but that's because they are able to sell them. they are a much bigger company than Subaru, and can get away with not selling as many wagons.
