Weird Front Wiper Problem
When in "Summer Mode" my front wipers have a hesitation when they are fully extended. This ONLY happens when you shut the wipers off and they are on the last cycle before they stop. You can turn the wipers on full speed and they work perfectly with no hesitation, but as soon as you switch them off the wiper basically pauses in the fully extended position for a brief moment and a slight binding noise can be heard. Also, to make this even weirder, when switched into "Winter Mode" this problem goes away and the wipers work normally. Because of this it seems unlikely that this is a mechanical problem, and leads me to think the wiper control module has gone bad. However, because the module is $130 I would greatly appreciate anyones input, as going and buying the part and then still having the problem won't make me happy.
Since my description of the problem might not be perfectly clear, I have included a movie of the wiper problem that can be seen here. (It's a 10MB file, so 56k people be patient ) |

I'm having trouble opening your file so I'm not positive - but how long has it being doing this? Meaning was it working correctly before and now it's doing something strange?
In summer mode the wipers do a strange manuever related to "parking" at the lower position on the cowling when you turn them off. Of course when in winter mode they don't park lower so there is no need for it. I'm suspecting what you are seeing is normal although I can't explain the binding noise you mentioned. It would be easy to see if I could just open that file OK...got it to open....I'm not seeing anything wrong there....

I watched it and I don't see anything wrong. Maybe I need to see more.

Hiya,
Mine do the same thing, either if you use the single wipe or on slow intermittant or when you turn then off, they pause for a second in the full sweep position before lowering back down. I appear to have a slight amount of play so presume its just a delay taking up the play at slow motor speed. Everything still works as it should & its not my main car so I dont see it as a problem at the moment, might change a few little parts and shims and see how it goes. Darren

I agree with budfreak. I've only had my SVX a little over ayear, but its had this "problem" if you want to call it ever since I bought it, but it hasn't gotten worse and never caused me any trouble so I wouldn't worry about it

It happens on mine, too. It feels so clunky! Alas...

Within the wiper motor assembly there are two limit switches. It would appear certain that each is set to operate at the two selectable park positions. Faulty operation in this area could produce the symptoms as recorded here.

I'll chime-in with those who say this is perfectly normal. Mine behave the same and I've never before given it a second thought.
