Diff lock problem

Hello everyone.

As you can see I'm new guy around here. I'm from Estonia. I guess that most of you have not even heard about such country, but still I have 1992 SVX.

So lets get to the point. It seems like diff lock is always on. When cornering, the whole translation goes into stress, and one rear wheel (usually) starts to rakeing. The diff lock light is always on. Pulling the fuse out do not help, it only puts the light out. What could be the problem?

My english is not very good, but I hope you get the point.

It's Thanksgiving day... A national holiday in the U.S. today, so answers are going to be slow until tomorrow.

I've personally never heard of a "diff lock", or that there was a warning light for it. At least not on the US cars. They are full time All-wheel-drive. There is no lock.

There is a fuse under the hood to force the car into Front Wheel Drive. Placing a fuse in this slot forces the car to run in FWD, but is only used for maintenance type reasons. Most feel running the car in FWD this way serves no purpose and is harmful to the transmission due to the ATF pressure increase on the transmission.

If you could elaborate on what you mean by the differential locking....

Welcome to the site!! And yes, most of us DO know that Estonia exists. We just did not know there were SVX's over there!

Welcome again to the site!!

Hi Don yes I get the point. Pluging the fuse in will lock the center diff and bring on the 'diff lock' light. If the diff still feels like it is locked, when the fuse is out, it is the C solenoid/transfer valve assemble, in the rear of the gearbox that is sticking. This can be replaced by removing the rear section of the gearbox. You should also replace the Limited Slip Clutch plates while the back of the box is off. The cost here in Australia is about A$400/US$320.

Your car is a Euro model that has a different AWD unit to the US model. You can read about other members that have had the same problem, and how to fix it ,in the European Forum.

Harvey.
