Selling Up

Because of soaring fuel prices here in NZ, im going to have to sell the SVX and get a more economical car (1993 Toyota Corona)

Sad to see it go, but thats the way its got to be.

Sorry to hear you're selling it, but I agree that petrol prices here are getting painful.

Yeah, i only get about 500kms(if im lucky) off a full tank of 98. Its crazy, specially being a student and travelling 100kms a day.

Think i saw your car drive past when i was out in the hutt a couple of months ago. looks mint.

SVXNZ - fuel prices

Mate, I dont know what your fuel prices are, ours at $1.20 for premium at the moment (Brisbane) but if an extra job for a few weeks keeps you in the car thats got to be better than selling it. Once its gone its gone forever.....

It can't be that hard to spot. As far as I'm aware it's the only black SVX in Wellington. Yeah, it looks good but sadly it hasn't been too well cared for mechanically and has cost a fair bit to sort it out. The trade off is it was really cheap.

svxsvx, the current price for 96 here is around $1.60/L and is expected to pass $2/L by the end of the year. The problem we have is, is only a few months ago it was $1.10/L.

Sorry to hear you are selling man.

I have one of my SVXs for sale, and the '93 one in development. When I parked the SVX, I got a twin turbo Legacy estate for an everyday car. It does everything really well, is faster than the SVX, can carry everything, no, make that EVERYTHING!, so is a sensible change from a big heavy guzzling coupe.

Except that it gets it very hard to beat 20 mpg, and our fuel prices here are climbing also. Strangely enough, all Subaru WRX people I have met and discussed it with, they seem to take this as normal.

Not sure on exchange rates, but I suspect your $1.20 is way cheaper than here, and your $1.60 is about what we are paying at present.

I hope you get a good price for the SVX. I may take mine off the market. A time of high fuel price hysteria is not the right time to be selling an SVX, which is a "high maintenance" car in the normal sense of the term.

Best of luck with the sale. If economy is your goal, and you still want speed, I can recommend a VW Passat Tdi. My brother had one of these. It could really haul ass, and still gave 40 mpg. Hard to beat that in the real world.

Joe

More than you'd think, beleive it or not.

If anyone is thinking about importing it to Aus, it's only good for parts - you'd never get it on the road. At least not for quite a number of years, as it has a minimum age before you can simply import and register. Otherwise it needs to be owned by you as a resident of another country, then you ship it over and register it under the same name. I think you need to then wait 6 or 18 months before you can transfer ownership to someone else
