I really can't remember what if I used the dust cap or not, but all I needed to do to get rid of the sqeek was to use 1 thin washer on the top of the mount. If the dust cap is needed to take up more space on the shank then I would say you do need it. But really can't remember.

im going to try the top first. i could tell it was loose just by shaking.
