painters and paint gun experience

Any painters here or have worked with paint guns?

I'm planning to paint the following:

my house - exterior
my house - interior
my separate garage - exterior (that's filled with junk)
my mum's house - exterior
and maybe my mum's house - interior

I could hire someone to do it, but since I have time, I thought I might as well save some coin, you know for the svx.

Anyway, I thought about trying out those paint guns to save time and effort. Does anyone here have experience using paint guns before. Any words of advice or procedures that I need to know of? Tricks maybe?

I saw that there are a few types of paint guns. HPLV, Airless, and regular paint guns that run off air compressors. I have an air compressor, can I buy a gun kit/set that would work with it?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

How about painting cars, is it similiar or can you use similar guns with different paint?

IMHO, if you need to ask, it isn't usually a good idea. To get a good result, a level of skill and experience is needed.

yeah, i've read that there's some skill required to get a uniform coat on or else i'll have to drop some coin on paint to make the color blend in.

meh, i thought it would be worth a try considering i have so much to paint. it's always good to try something new out right?

if i can save 30% of my time, it would be worth it IMO.

i'm also trying to see if there are kits i can hook up to my air compressor to convert it into a pressure washer. bought this portable compressor to use on my svx and thought i'd put it to some more use like blasting the chipped paint off my house and garage.

What size is your compressor? For a car I'd say you need atleast a 10 gallon tank, for a house I wouldn't even try unless you had atleast 30. You'll be running out of air halfway. No air=no paint

Well, I have a Spyder Shutter and a Brass Eagle Avenger w/ a 14" Thunder Pig barrel, each with a 9oz CO2 tank...

When painting a house with an air gun, the outside is an OK idea but the interior is a bad idea if someone is currently living there. On the inside, you would have to seal up the doors, windows, air ducts, etc to keep the whole house from getting covered in paint dust.

New, unoccupied construction, both interior and exterior are fine with spray gun.

I'm not sure how much time it will save you on a repaint since you will still need to scape and prime the peeling paint on the outside, then tape off the trim and windows before you spray. Plus if there is even a gentle breeze, you can go through a lot of extra paint.

In my opinion, spray painting should be done in a booth and brush painting outside of a booth.

naw, its easy! on the commercial for the Wagner Powerpainter, a guy paints his whole house perfectly with one swipe of the gun.

For the house exterrior I'd go with an airless, and find something to practice on first, like the neighbors car if you aren't good friends , but probably not a good idea... If you contact the local hazerdous waste facility they can probably get you some junk paint to practice with...

As far as a power washer, be ready to spend $400-700 for a descent one, DO NOT get one with an adjustable tip, I won't go into details, but that tip reduses the power of the washer so much you might as well put a nozel on your garden hose, get one with several different tips that can be interchanged for a different cleaning pattern, an air compressor will not be good enough...refer back to hose/nozel statement...

It would take you awhile to paint your whole house with a paintgun...



I haven't ever painted a house with a compressor, but I suppose the same basics would apply with painting a car. I'm sure you'd use a different nozzle though.
