throttle body/ IAC valve removal

did a search, but never really found anything detailed about throttlebody and IAC valve removal/replacement. anybody have any tips?

-is there a gasket that needs to be replaced?

-wrench sizes/ number of bolts?

-does the IAC valve have a "setting" that could get screwed up or need calibrated?

thanks for any help! i have a million things to do this weekend and i'd like to minimize any surprises.

That is a good link, thanks Lee, ever helpful.

Alan, there is a gasket between the throttle body and the engine, be careful not to break it if taking off the throttle body. See:

http://www.subaruparts.com/diag/?mod...ategory=063A-1

It's not shown, but I think it's part # 16175 in this schematic.

so its re-useable (if not broken)?

Hard to say Alan without seeing it.

If they used any kind of sealant with a light gasket, they will usually tear or break, need replacing.

If it is hard and substantial, most of the time they will be OK to reuse.

At the price it would be best to have one in your hand before you strip down the throttle body.

Your call really.

Joe

for all the throttlebody cleanings that have been done, the gasket is never mentioned. re-useable, i'd guess, but i'll get one before i do it just in case....

It's re-usable Alan. I've removed at least 4 and have never damaged one. Now that I've said that, yours will probably go all supernova on itself when you remove it

You and me both. Just as I thought everything was calming down and moving forward my gall bladder decided it was time to go its separate way.

I didn't read the links but the most important part is that you don't want to change any adjustments. It may take several drive cycles for everything to calm down (mine took about three days) and normalize.

sorry about your gall bladder, Beav. you should have tried some carb cleaner.

i was going to ask, what adjustment will get screwed up? should it be marked before removal from the TB (kinda like the TPS?), or is it something internal that shouldn't be messed with?

If anything has a locknut on it leave it alone. The throttle blades should never be removed from the shaft either - besides, there's not really any reason to remove them.

I was trying to think of what I could use it for. Maybe a p/s fluid syringe or a miniature whoopie cushion...

I've also reused the gasket for the throttlebody without issue. Haven't played with the IAC yet though.

i just remembered the previous owner had the throttle body cleaned (by the dealer) not too long before i bought it. i'm wondering if they possibly knocked the IAC out of whack? is there a procedure to check the adjustment?
