Strange Humming From Rear Of Car

I have a 92 SVX with 125,000 miles on it. Transmission is an upgraded transmission with a filter kit, which was put in 1998 . It has low profile 17 inch wheels and tires (245's).

I have noticed this strange sound coming from the rear and it gets louder as speed is increased. Sounds almost like wind in the tunnel, a howling sound. The previous owner told me he replaced the right side wheel bearings. I am wondering if it is wheel bearings related or if the problems stem from the fact that it doesn't have the original wheels.

I read in another post that it is better to drive the car in 3 instead of D, because it helps save the transmission and have abided by this. I also use Lucas transmission fix and Lucas gas treatment. And another thing, I get terrible gas mileage on this car, 10 or 12 at the most. Is this because of the all wheel drive? My other cars get much better mileage. Could anyone give me some advice or input in the above matter. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well theres alot of debates on whether to drive in 3 or not. I do it all the time and only shift to D when going above 50 or 55mph or when i get on the highway. Ive heard it cuts down on heat and is easy going on the tranny.
