Peeling clearcoat on wheels
The clearcoat os coming off of my original wheels. Since I'm a cheap SOB and son't want to spend hundreds of $$, what are inexpensive solutions?
What bad things would happen to me if I were to sand the remaining clearcoat off to get a consistant look? The rest of the car looks good but the wheels are "trashing" it up. Randy (Ugly wheels) ii |

Randy ii,
First off, congrats on getting your trans working! Second, you might try a very, very, very fine sandpaper or steel wool to feather out the edges of the clearcoat (might even want to try some polishing compound first). Once "feathered", I'd follow up with some clear spraypaint to seal it and keep it from peeling more. Good luck. -Bill

It does not bother me too much, as I intend having my four wheels redone, sanded completely, trued up, and resprayed with original dark silver. But over-eager with the steel wool or fine sandpaper will leave a mottled look. Joe
