Engine Codes For OBD2 engines-'95, '96, '97

Did a search last night to get some technique on checking my own CHECK ENGINE codes. I found the posts on using the blue wires/connector enclosed near the driver's side foot rest...

Well what the posts failed to say is in the 95, 96, 97 model years the second pin that is supposed to be used to check codes does not have a wire to it. I believe it is the blue one with white stripe from the picture on the posts.

After looking at Chilton's they also say the OBD2 engine codes must be checked and cleared by a separate diagnostic unit. The newer model years have a diagnostic port on the dash to the right of the steering wheel where the older models have the coin holder. Subaru must have eliminted the wire that goes to port #2 used for the self diagnostic.

So I just reset everything by disconnecting the battery negative pole.

If the check engine pops up again I guess I will look for a diagnotic unit or take it to the dealer. They are always happy to see me and my check book
