Re: Do I put in a new engine?

Once you start diving into the bottom end, getting the parts from Subaru is not much cheaper than say the performance parts Nassir got for his engine build.
Go ahead and price out on Subaruparts.com, just rings and bearings if you're reusing all the hard parts. Then add in the cost of getting everything checked out that it is in fact in good shape. You're still looking at a couple grand just for that kinda stuff when all said and done.

Re: Do I put in a new engine?

I'm about to start down a long winding road -- I'm going to pickup a 2nd SVX tomorrow.

It's an ebony '92 with a bad tranny that I'll either use as a donor for the engine in my '97 or, if the body + other running gear are better, it might be getting the tranny from the '97.

So, I've got 2 questions to start:

1. Any tricks to towing with a dolly? The seller has already dropped the driveshaft for me.

2. What's an easier job -- the engine or tranny transplant?

Wish me luck. It's 830 km (500 mi) each way, so I should be home Sunday night.

Re: Do I put in a new engine?

Engine is easier, less crawling under the car, etc. Whatever way you decide though, don't part out the 97.
