I bought one of the original tools (you pictured) on Ebay 3 years ago for $40. I have used it once. Years ago I made one for an older Subaru, but I had my welder and torch unit set up. Used a small square of steel and a short bar for a handle, cut a hole in the middle, rounded off the corners, drilled holes at proper spacing, put bolts through them---worked fine.

You guys might also want to jump on the last rubber rear brake line in the nation according to Subarugenuineparts.com Mine finally showed up and its pretty stiff and the tag looks like its been sitting on the shelf for 15 years.

This argument always made absolutely no sense to me. If the tool was going to break when using the starter, why wouldn't it break when just using it normally? The only torque that matters is the torque on the bolt, as soon as that bolt breaks loose, there is no torque left. There is exactly the same torque being put on the tool either way, by hand or with the starter. The bolt isn't magically tightened to 300ft/lbs just because you are using the starter.

To me, if the tool were going to break, it would seem to be a lot more dangerous for me to be holding it, right? When I use the starter to pop one loose, I am in the car and no one is around it.
