Hit And Run In Portland, OR...

Ugh. My poor SVX was the victim of a hit and run. I stayed the night at a friend's house and ended up parking on the street. I woke up the next morning to find the damage shown in the pictures. Looks like someone backed into my car and couldn't be bothered to leave a note. My insurance covers Hit And Runs. But... I know body damage can add up quickly. What are the chances of my SVX being totaled? It's a '94 green front wheel drive model. I'd hate to lose it over something like this. Thanks for your help.

Thats not a bad hit at all!

Worst case scenario, you buy the easily bolted on fender and side marker and replace it yourself.

Re: Hit And Run In Portland, OR...

That's what I'm hoping, but I panicked when I saw it and filed a claim. (The claims person hasn't called me back yet.) I haven't taken it to a body shop for an estimate. Anyone have an idea for a ballpark figure?

From the looks of things, new fender, new turn signal, refinish the bumper and blending the paint a little bit. Should easily stay under $1k in damages

Re: Hit And Run In Portland, OR...

You might ask around, see if anyone saw anything. With that little damage, if the person was driving a truck or something, they might not have even known they hit you. Hell, even if they total it, buy it back and fix it yourself...

i wouldn't be surprised if your deduct. is more than the repair. you can probably grab these parts off people on the network and have a body shop spray for you.

That damage doesn't look bad at all. You should be fine.

That said, I'd be looking VERY closely at the back ends of all vehicles belonging to the neighbor across the street...

Good luck on the fix. Any more on maybe who might have done it?

Re: Hit And Run In Portland, OR...

Thanks for the support guys! I talked to my friend's neighbors but none know anything. Oh well.
I had to visit a couple different shops to find one that wasn't going to be over charging me. The first shop I stopped at quoted me $1983.84! Needless to say I got out of their quickly. But I've found a reasonable shop and my insurance should be covering it.

New bumper!
New fender!
New side marker light!
All from Subaru!
Paint them....and paint some of the
body part to match the color.
Plus lot of hours.

A team worker of mine, she was rear-ended by an SUV tonight. And, that driver "hit and run"!! Her back was hurt and sent to hospital by an ambulance. Only the bumper damage on that toyota camry. Car was definitely drivable and was parked there.

Few hours later, another team worker got a ride and went to drive her car back to the store. Just right outside the store, the same toyota camry crashed with a new subaru impreza and that impreza hit another toyota corolla by side. Now her car is probably gonna total. Driver side airbag deployed. Driver side fender is gone. Driver side door is damaged. Driver side wheel is bent and the tire is busted. Wheel almost came off the car. Driveshaft is gone. Transmission damage? Unkown.

Poor car, two accidents in few hours. And the owner is still in the hospital.

Oh sorry didn't know that a new bumper is needed, I thought it is the inner metal bracket of the bumper that is bent and changing that will automatically fix the bumper...

All from subaru? Nice!

On a sidenote, I was on vacation back home and explored the possibility of importing those SVXi that you usually total and fix them to become driveable again. Well I wished the regulations were different, the car should be at least 8 years old to allow entry.

Even if I want to import it for parts purpose, the car cannot clear the customs unless it is split in half
I even explored other possibilities involving special financial adjustments to that fatal error... if you know what I mean. Still trying and waiting for some good news.
