Crank Pulley rubbing...

My crank pulley rubs on the passenger side of the timing belt cover. At first I thought it was because it was going bad, but I replaced it with one from the junk yard. Then that still rubbed, so I picked up a Perrin Lightweight pulley. That rubbed even worse.

After some common sense reasoning, I believe that the reason it is rubbing is because it's only tensioned one side. I don't have an A/C Compressor installed because the one that came on the car was seized. So there is only the PS/Alt belt installed. I think that is the cause of my problem.

Does anyone have ideas on how to solve this? One would be to get an AC Compressor and install it, just not hook anything up. But would that cause it to seize as well?

Thoughts?

Thanks,
Matthew

Re: Crank Pulley rubbing...

I can't imagine having an AC belt on would make a difference. I took my AC belt off when I swapped motors and have yet to reinstall, no rubbing whatsoever.
I think something is up with the timing belt cover itself. Perhaps it's warped or not seated fully. The inner cover could be the culprit as well.

Re: Crank Pulley rubbing...

think you should check the plastic timing covers and the installation fail, or the warpage fail.

Re: Crank Pulley rubbing...

Mine did this briefly after I did my timing belt..... it just has to wear in again since it was slightly repositioned after reinstallation. Ive seen it happen numerous times on the subaru HO engines.
