Rear Differential interchangability?

I took my 92 LS-L in to the shop, thinking I needed a new rear wheel bearing. I was told that the problem seems to be with the rear differential, so I'm looking for a used one now. My question is do I need one specifically from a 92 LS-L or will rear diffs from other years and models work? And which ones specifically? What do I look for to determine the quality of a used rear diff?

Brian

If it still has the stock gears (3.54's) any year SVX (92-97)rear diff will work

I assume that the Visco differential assembly is what is bad and not just the rear bearing in the diff.

They said it's the bearing in the differential that's the culprit, but it would be cheaper to just replace the whole thing.

Wow, I would rather spend the money for new bearrings ($50.00 each, need 2) than get a used rear that the conditions of the bearring are unknown. You will spend about $70 to $120 for a used rear at a salvage yard. When I bought a 4.11 rear it cost me $85.00 3 years ago.

I would check more into new bearring. subaruparts.com has them for about 50 + shipping.

Steve

P.S. get new o-ring too.

I think I would get a second opinion on it, as I have not heard of the rear diff giving any trouble.

Harvey.
