Exclamation For the Love of God! Help me!!!

AHHHHHHH!
Sorry I had to get that out.

Ok heres the background, tell me if you know what is wrong: I was going down the highway at around 75mph when I heard a clunk, it was muffled, but I felt it, ten seconds later or so (under a minute) the speedo went from 75mph to 0mph, it was cool to watch, but frustrating. I thought, damn the tranny, so I speed up a little, and I speed up, tach. still worked. The check engine light is on, and I can hear something at the driving idle (1000rpm) it sounds like a remote controled car be pushed when off (the whine of the gears and such) but if I accelerate, it stops, and no its not covered by my exhaust, it is louder in the cab. When I get out, I can smell something not burning but unpleasent, and it is a strong odor.

Present: I am sitting here safe at home, but sad and confused.

What I want: Someone, anyone to tell me what the heck is wrong and about how much to fix it.

Thanks guys, I know that you will all try to help.

Have you checked your front differential fluid? Whining sound sounds like diff problems.

You should first check all your car oil levels, engine, tranny, diff... then go underneath your car and try to pinpoint that smell. But most probably you have something wrong in your differential. the wining noise is from there...

could just be the speed sensor or it could be the linkage for it... I have a spare sensor here you could borrow to trouble shoot... You should check the front diff oil to make sure it is not toasted and also make sure there is enough in there... Drain it out and take note of the magnet on the plug... see what kind of shavings are on there..there should be some but nothing more than some dust...

BEFORE you do anything....just make sure it is plugged in first

Could it be something as simple as a speedometer cable that happened on my Legacy Turbo and I got a check engine light and a few other things didn't work also. it SVX has a cable doesn't it?

no...the svx is driven by a shaft in the front differential... That shaft leads to a sensor and that is where the ecu picks up the signal
