Do i need brake band adjustment?

My car has had an issue for a while. Its nothing major...at least i hope not. I first noticed this back in I would say june of 2004. Sometimes ( not all the time) i get that braking feeling from the 2-3 shift. All other shifts are nice and crispy. I keep the car in 3 most of the time untill I get to the highway and then i hit 4th. Ive noticed it mostly happens when the car is cold...I also have a tranny cooler. Fluid is perfect and was changed in september and has approx 6k on it. I have read that the clearance is too small and that causes the braking feeling from 2-3. Sometimes the shift to 3rd is kinda rough but it always goes into gear with no prob. I'm not inclined to do the adjustment myself because my friend omar and I tried to do it to his car when his tranny went and we couldnt get that screw loose for the life of us. The dealer quoted him at 150 for the job. I haven't called my dealer yet to ask how much it would cost. Now this doesnt happen with every single 2-3 shift...only sometimes. And this has been this way since about june of 04....may have been longer but as im taking more interest in cars im noticing more things.

unless it was rebuilt in 04, or improperly adjusted, then I doubt this is the cause of what you're experiencing...it would be a rare event for the band to get tighter as it wore.

please note, this is not factually based, just my best guess given it should get loose, not tight, as it wears.

Yeah lee this is what i thought as well. I dont know if the car ever had a rebuilt tranny or not. Feels like the original tranny. But i would have no way of knowing as the PO never mentioned anything. I think it maybe TPS related? Sometimes in my driveway or at a red light the idle will be at almost 1000 rpm's. Happens more often than it used too. Good throttle response when that happens though .
