Spider in the Speedo
No, it's not wearing it.
A spider climbed into my dash, built a little web by the speedo, molted, crawled over by the tach, stretched and died. For a while this feature made the car uniquely unique, but now I'm tired of it. I began some tentative diss-assembly of the dash thinking it might be easy but I was just foolin around and stopped after I had removed lots of screws etc and didn't seem to be any closer. Is this something I'm better off just living with? How difficult is it to get the plastic bezel off? I'd considered some access hole from underneath/behind and a small vacuum hose to suck it out but haven't persued that yet. Any suggestions? |

The entire instrment cluster, clear plastic and everything comes out as a single unit. Then you can take it apart nd get your little critter out.
Be careful with the gauge faces - they mark very easily. I'm not kidding. Anyway, I've never actually taken the console apart - I just have a spare cluster I've played with...but I bet it's a total pain in the ass.

Thanks for the quick comment.
I was just over on svxbabble and almost simultaneously a response to dash light fix gave me everything I needed including pictures. It seems like a fairly simple procedure. I got as far as the screws out but didn't want to force anything, and I didn't know about the little plastic "blank" buttons that have to come off before anything can be pulled further. I should be able to fit a thin vacuum hose in without having to go too far beyond that cluster removal portion. Thanks, and thanks to Seraph for documenting the procedure. |
