Question Brake job

I have to replace the rotors, galipers and pads on my 4 wheels. Having never done that before I would like some insight on how it's done (steps) and things to look out for.

Thanks,

JP

Bleeding proceedures

Make sure you know the proper bleeding proceedures for the SVX. First bleed the primary bleeder on the ABS unit. This is the bleeder by the "RR" marking. Next bleed the Secondary bleeder located by the "RL" marking.

After this is done bleed the Right Front, then the Left Rear. Next do the Front Left then the Rear Right. This is because the SVX uses a Diagonal System.

If you just want a pretty basic down and dirty howto, I made one on my site that most people have found helpful.

http://www.ryanmacdonald.com/

Just go to SVX, then SVX Howto's. I have a few in there, one being a caliper replacement howto.

Just post if you have any issues.

Later,
Ryan

Question Question for you jp

Can I buy your old calipers? If so, shoot me a price via PM.

Thanks,
Todd

Re: Bleeding proceedures

Since only the calipers are being changed, and as long as while bleeding the resevoir is not allowed to empty, you can get away with only bleeding the calipers that are new. There is no need to bleed upstream.

old fluid

You want all of the old fluid out. The fluid will collect moisture and lowers the boiling point. Corrosion inhibitors become ineffective. Bleed the whole system.

Re: old fluid

I agree that you do want to re-new your fluid periodically. But if you've recently had that done (or did it yourself) and are now replacing a caliper or two, you don't have to bleed anything more than the calipers.
