yeah, i can't believe President Bush and his cabinet aren't in court more often prosecuting these violators.
in fact, just last week, my satellite TV went out for a minute during a heavy rainstorm.......and the Bush Administration did NOTHING about it!

Just one problem with your "analysis". If a regular service provider doesn't fulfill his contractual obligations, you can take him to court. But under the terms of the Health Privacy laws, the only recourse available is to complain to the government. No other method of resolving a complaint or violation is possible for a citizen under this law.

"HIPAA provides that state law, except for certain specified laws (concerning public health surveillance) and state laws that are more stringent, is preempted by the federal privacy rule."

"The regulation does not authorize patients to sue."

Actually, the law was passed under Clinton. Bush just revised it a little
Guess you didn't bother checking the source I provided, so here it is:

"As required by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of
1996 (“HIPAA”), privacy recommendations were made to Congress by HHS in 1997,
and a privacy rule was issued by the Clinton Administration in December 2000."

From The Soap Opera, "Desperate Republicans":

Tonight's Episode: YOU DON'T NEED NO STINKIN' RIGHTS!

lhopp77:
"You mean they only GAINED this protection UNDER THE BUSH ADMINISTRATION??"

Once again you completely miss the point: Bush isn't enforcing the law and it's another issue of our privacy, please READ:

In the three years since Americans gained federal protection for their private medical information, the Bush administration has received thousands of complaints alleging violations but has not imposed a single civil fine and has prosecuted just two criminal cases.

So we're getting more abrogation of our rights and continueing failure to enforce the law, courtesy of Bush and lhopp77 missed the point so badly and is SO DESPERATE to find ANYHTING BUSH HAS DONE RIGHT that he tried to claim credit for legislation produced by the Clinton admin. How sad.
So it is official:

IHOPP77 IS A VERY DESPERATE REPUBLICAN

May you someday get the point grasshopper,
WGJ
Here's an idea! Another red herring! Republicans can introduce a constitutional amendment to ban same sex marriage! That'll distract the country from BUSH'S LITANY OF F**KUPS! Somebody call Rove quick! He'll love it.

WGJ--You are just so easy. No matter what I through out there you arise to the occasion and take it hook, line and sinker. Bet your blood pressure goes up about 50 points each time.

Have a VERY nice day!!

You're So Consistently Wrong And So Desperate To Protect

the Bush admin that you thought you were finally going to be able to point at JUST ONE THING GEORGIE'S GOT RIGHT, you took the bait before reading the entire post and just stepped in and started yappin', again. Now you're trying to cover your ass, but your ploy's transparent. There's so many examples in these threads of you totally missing the point and YOU NEVER ADMIT A MISTAKE. No matter who points it out.
Just more of your WEAK BS. You ain't foolin' nobody.

"No matter what I through out there you arise to the occasion and take it hook, line and sinker."

Lee, if you weren't so upset at being caught red handed COMPLETELY WRONG AGAIN, how do you explain "through"? Don't you mean T-H-R-O-W?

Can't wait for the next "Desperate Republicans" (No good lookin' women and no sex, just lots of whinin' on the way to jail. Maybe that's why Republicans are trying to ban gay marriage, they're afraid some of their people might want to get married in prison!)

May you someday get the point grasshopper,
WGJ

So you deliberately attributed the law to the wrong president just to test him to see if he knew that the Clinton administration created the law and the Bush administration has just done their best to ignore it and to get him angry? Or did you make a mistake and now you're doing your best to draw attention away from it? At least you learned from the master.

You Can Fool Some Of The People...

Thanks, SubaSteevo, glad to see someone's paying attention. Howver, I disagree with you on one point:

At least you learned from the master.

Rove is way too clever to approve of anything so weak and obvious.

"Bet your blood pressure goes up about 50 points each time."
Hell Lee, I train with my UFC and Muy Thai fighters, guys less than half my age and that only bumps it up a little. Your impotent attempts at riposte are a consistent source of humor, (because you're sooo silly), so my blood pressure goes lower. In order for you to upset me enough to drive my blood pressure up I'd actually have to care about your opinion. A bit presumptuious of you, don't you think?

As someone who deals with HIPAA everytime someone ends up in the hospital from a nasty collision or a major crime, HIPAA sucks. It maybe nice to not be able to get your neighbor's HIV test results on-line, but who does it hurt to let the Police know what your injuries are after being cut out of a car? Any personal freedoms there?

+3 to Robert for abstaining
+8 to Bipa for attempting to moderate and not preach
+10 to Landshark for doing what he does best, stiring the pot
+3 to lhopp77 for being Lee
-5 to lhopp77 for jumping to soon
-9 to WGJ for not relaxing a bit, this isn't the real world on here
-8 to SubaSteevo for being late to the party
