gas smell inside the car

Ive seen other this posted up before but couldnt find
it in a search.
I have a customer who gets a distinct fuel smell inside the
cabin from time to time..
I was thinking it had to do with the venting system for the
tank, or something with a vaccum line under the dash that may
of cracked or broke.
any ideas, lmk

Re: gas smell inside the car

Probably just the rusted out fuel line from the gas tank...

I would probably start digging into that area.

Re: gas smell inside the car

Check the simple stuff first. I had a strong gas smell on startup that dissipated once I got rolling. Problem: A loose hose clamp at the fuel filter.

Re: gas smell inside the car

I had a leak where the fuel lines come into the car from the back. Lift up the rear seat bun and check there?

Re: gas smell inside the car

a good shop uses a smoke test..
they put smoke thru all the vent lines to the
tank and charcoal canister etc to find the leak.
Its not leaking fuel, Im sure of that, but it has to
do with the charcoal canister and vent system the
epa mandates all these cars to have since the 70s.
