We just figured he had a dirty air filter, crappy plugs, and about 50K miles on his oil. That would bring the HP at the crank down to around 200HP |

Phoenix,
Some people got rude with you but that subarusvx.com website will only educate you some more about the SVX. If you've already read it, then try searching this forum for whatever specific info you desire. No one will truly know whether a supposedly Turbo'd Mazda3 could beat an SVX - there are just too many variables. Good luck in your race and definitely take it to the track! -Chike Quote:

...
maybe go do a search on "naturaly aspirated" and "turbo" in ... you will find that there in NO BOOST in a NA (naturally aspirated) car... sounds like your friend knows less than you...

lol but now you see the point about the hp

"efficiency the SVX should produce 228 hp"
"However, consider the temperature of the air. Under the hood, without any type of insulation, I am willing to bet the temperature is probably not far from the temp of the thermostat. To be conservative, let's say the new cone filter is breathing in 160 degree under hood air instead of 77 degree air. Using the previous formula, but adjusting the air temperature what is the mass flow rate? 19.64 lbs/hour. That amounts to 199 horsepower. Here are calculations for a couple other temps at 98% VE:" |

Phoenix,
That change in engine horsepower is not specific to the SVX but true of all cars both NA and forced induction. When the air temp is cooler, the air molecules are denser allowing an engine to make more horsepower. The reverse happens when things heat up... So if you took an SVX out on a 40* day, it would be making close to 250hp, but on a 100* day the output would be closer to 220hp. -Chike Quote:
