Have you ever ridden on the beach?

Have any of you ever taken your subie on sand at the beach? I want to go with my friend and his legacy gt to Island beach state park NJ to take it out on the sand but my dads betting that we're gonna get stuck in the sand. Whats everyone else experience with beach driving? Is it damaging on your drivetrain and suspension/wheel bearings in the long run?

Florida one of the only places that seems to have hard enough sand to drive cars on. I,v been on the beach with my 81wagon and barly mad it back out, went down another time after a snow storm in my Loyal before the lift, and got to close to the water the sand just gave way and swallowed my car, thankfully a guy was riding his quad on the beach and whent back to get his K1500 Chevy. We all most both ended up stuck out there but we did get it out. From now on i'm not going to the beach without a big reascue truck. I went back out to that spot with my freind in his V8 strait axle Ranger with 37"boggers, in two wheel drive the sand would just start to swallow his rear axle. So in my opinion don't do it , not in a Legacy, not in an SVX, becides sand can get in your bearing.

I'm not taking the svx on it, no way! I had trouble with the snow in my front yard. we got around 6 -7 inches and the bottom of the car brushed the snow, because i could see fine lines between my tire treads.


We thought it would be "interesting" to try on his legacy, and I was all for the idea because we wouldnt be taking my car

I've had my svx on the beach... It went OK, but the sand was pretty wet that day.

If your frend is that stupid go for it, just make sure your not a mile out with no way home, it could be a long cold walk on the beach watching the sunset.

I have had my Legacy GT in the sand at the beach. I pulled off the road quickly and embedded all four wheels in the sand almost up to the rocker panels. After an enjoyable day I went back to the car hopped in put her in Drive and it felt weird for a second like the front lifted a little, then the back a little, then the front and off it went with no problem! It was incredible!

daytona beach is open durning daylight hours. during the colder months there's no charge to drive on the beach, around this time of year, however, they start charging 5 dollars for beach entry.

the sand close to the water is packed as hard as concrete, farther up it's soft and driving in it is a lot like driving in snow. try not to get too carried away though, as impressive as awd is, beach patrol officers dont appreciate demonstrations.

personally i've had no trouble from driving on daytona beach, sand does get everywhere, but otherwise no adverse side effects. i've never been stuck, but i wouldnt reccomend driving on a beach where the sand is really deep, or doesnt pack down real hard. keep in mind the svx is a low car, it could get stuck sitting on top of deep, soft sand, then all awd will do is dig you 4 holes where the 4 wheels are spinning without traction.

There is a pretty nice video of a stock WRX blowing through a sand dune. not the beach but a sand dune. i've been trying to find it. I have also driven My legacy on a beach with no problems.

Thumbs down Ride like the Wind! da-da da-da-da!

Motorcycles? Yes!

Sand rail? Sure!

Horses? Every chance I get!

Drive an SVX? IMHO you are lookin' for some potentially $eriou$ trouble !

If you do go out on sand at a beach, be ABSOLUTELY sure you get your SVX up in the air after and completely clean ALL the sand off your running gear, brakes, etc.

The salt water (corrosive) and the sand (abrasive) can really cause some problems with u-joints, Cv joints, bushings, calipers... The list goes on.

What beaches are you guys driving on? Just don't try it in RI, I'm telling you, the sand will swallow you whole.

I definately wouldn't tryi it in a SVX. to low and even if you could///should you really. It is like putting ketchup on steak, just because you can doesn't mean you should.
I did get in an argument with an Audi tt driver about weather he could in a TT roadster. He was convinced that it would run better than the WRX did (pre-mentioned video) I'm convinced he could do it...once.

Drove off end of old road onto sand up by Sleeping Bear Dunes MI.

Car IMMEDIATLEY sank.

Slightest touch on gas had tires spinning and digging straight down.....stopped before frame dragged and had to have a couple of guys push me back up onto pavement.

Sand was deep and dry, would stick to the hard pack.
