Re: Road Trip & BBQ. Auckland -> Rotorua

I'm glad you're meeting at 8:00, it has just occurred to me that 1 1/2 hrs is no where near enough time to get from Akl to Tirau.

From memory it's about 1hr 30 to Matamata (from Drury) and then another 20mins to Tirau....

OK those coming from Auckland; Let's make meeting @ BP Drury say 7.45am with a plan to hitting the road by 8.00am....

OK - I am happy with meeting up with everyone, but before we all head out at different times can someone post a definitve time/meeting place list please.

Also need the BBQ meeting place if any of us "get lost" or stop off somewhere along the way - at least we know where to meet up for BBQ at the end.

thanks.

Steve, for us Aucklanders; let's meet @ BP Drury at 7.45am, I'll try to park near the BP end in front of the kids playground if I can. Pretty sure you'll see me

Shane, do you want to pick up the "convoy" at Matamata or meet us at Tirau?

Re meeting in Tirau, can I suggest somewhere near the big sheep on the main road?

Re: Road Trip & BBQ. Auckland -> Rotorua

There are map links for each location, please check them to see if they work, make sense.

~7:45 am optional meet up at big BP & Autobahn on left side of motorway near Karaka turnoff. By the kids playground.

10:00 am everyone meet at Tirau, drive through to Carl's place.
Tirau will be busy on Saturday morning.
I suggest we stop briefly to top up coffee etc and drain bladders then group up on the Rotorua road just off the Taupo/Rotorua intersection.
If you are first to arrive then just park somewhere safe here, but not beyond the automotive workshop on the left (which is 1.2km from the intersection.)

11:00 am arrive at Carl's place, circumnavigate Lake Rotorua
36 State Highway 30. 4km past Rotorua Airport. Turn right to Whakatane.
Carl is 360m down this road on the right. If it's safe, stay parked on the road as we're leaving shortly for lake trip.

12:00 noon BBQ
Plenty of off road parking in the paddock.
BYO food & drink.

Re: Road Trip & BBQ. Auckland -> Rotorua

Is there any point in exchanging phone numbers or something before Saturday ? Just in case we get to Tirau and someone who says they were coming doesn't turn up.
Mine is 021 742 634 and my intention is to join the group at Tirau.

Matt 02102410351 and I'll be waiting around 10:30ish just before the big roundabout as you get to Rotorua. You'll see the oil cloud from my leaking cam covers....

We are talking about saturday right?

Re: Road Trip & BBQ. Auckland -> Rotorua

Bummer. Took my SVX in to get the windscreen replaced today and have just found out that after market windscreens are missing a moulding required.
The moulding is available from Subaru and it's in stock in NZ, but it costs $1800 and comes with a free genuine windscreen attached.

The good news (and there is plenty of it), this should be covered by my insurance and it resolves my dilemma of which car to take to Rotorua tomorrow. It was going to be a toss up between my SVX or my Vortex.

Seeing as the SVX now has no windscreen, I'll be taking the Vortex.

Hopefully, see you at Tirau parked at the edge of town on the Rotorua road at 10:00 am in my pearly white Vortex.

The SVX windscreen is an Encapsulated one, which means they all come with the moulding attached. Stink, eh? Be nice to see a Vortex though.

Re: Road Trip & BBQ. Auckland -> Rotorua

Do we need to bring food for the bbq or a small fee per head?

Re: Road Trip & BBQ. Auckland -> Rotorua

I think intention is to bring some meat for BBQ and a salad to share.
Inevitably at these events, everyone brings a full pack of sausages and a huge bowl of salad (especially if wimin get involved) and there ends up being 5 people with enough food to feed 20 people.

I suspect there may only be four of us there (+partners & pets if any) + Carl.

So keep it modest, I suspect if you show up empty handed, there will still be plenty for you to eat and don't feel stink at all. I don't want excess sausages sitting in my car for the rest of the day so I won't be bringing much.

Yes, I thought some SVX owners would enjoy seeing a nice Vortex.

Just been to the glass shop, car looks sad and no word from the insurer yet.
No chance of it being done in time for tomorrow.
