Stone Chips
I have a TON of stone chips on my car, and they seem to get noticably worse every day. Is this a problem with most svx's, or could it be that my Emerald Pearl color is more prone to chipping than other colors. It kinda upsets me, because my car is in very nice shape otherwise.

I haven't seen very many SVXes without chips on them. I have a bra on my 93, and it helps a lot.
I got some wax the other day that came with a stick of colored wax or something firm that you could put in the chips. The wax was colored, and you get the color of your car. I got some, and the wax was great, but the stick didn't work very well. I may have to warm it up a little and try it again. That is what it is for - filling in the chips. It is a Turtle Wax product for what its worth.

Earl-
I saw that stuff at the local auto supply store, and thought about giving it a shot. Do you think its with the price? I think the reason my chips stand out so bad is because the wax gets in them and drys white. -Mike |

well then quit waxing your car
Actually, assuming the chip still has color (not down to primer) you could get a small bottle of clear touch up. Clean the chip out well, maybe with a paint prep product to get all the wax out. Then use a match stick sharpened to a point (not the brush in the bottle - too big). Dip the match tip in the clear, then just touch it to the chip's center and the paint will flow out to fill. Probably have to do this several times. Fill until the clear is at or slightly above the original finish. Give it a day or two so the paint solvents are well gone, then use 1500 sandpaper, followed by 2000, then polishing compund, then rewax. This will take a few days, but should end up looking reasonably good - all for less than about 10 bucks. Or you could do like I did, put a bra on the front and never look under there again. Who cares if the bra scratches, it was screwed up already. |

I actually have a bra, but it wont fit over the lip spoilers... AND, the stone chips go almost all the way up the hood, so the bra wouldnt really be THAT much of a help Might be time for a paint job.

I have not got the pencil to work yet, but the wax is incredible. It goes on good, and comes off good as well. So far it has lasted and I have been very pleased. The best part is what it does for scratches. I put it on an area that had a number of small scratches, and after 5 coats of the wax, they had almost dissappeared.

Mike,
i got a kit (GS-27?) that has several different colors of those "paint crayons" in it. works pretty good on the chips, especially small ones like you have. i just need black. you can have the green ones.

How did you use them? Did you warm the sticks, or the hood, or just move them back and forth? It was fairly cool when I tried to fill the chip holes. I want to try it on a warmer day. Thanks

my chips go all the way to the primer. The match stick is what I will try. I have used the brush in the past, too much paint.
