easy fix for loose center console

I finally got tired of having a loose console and decided to do something about it. It only took me a year to get around to it.

A nice cheap fix is to use longer screws and beveled rubber washers. The beveled rubber washers work well as they fill in holes very nicely. The only draw back is that the console floor will have three very small bumps where the screw heads are. Using beveled rubber washers reduced the bumps as the rubber gives when the screws are tightened.

Here's the materials:
#10x1" pan head machine screws (you will need a 3 pack; $0.88 at Home Depot)
3/8L Beveled Washers 11/16" O.D. (look for the Stem Repair section in the plumbing department; they come in a 10 pack for $1.52)

Remove the little floor mat in the center console. There will be three screws. Remove them. Use the beveled washers with the beveled part going into the hole. Insert the longer 1" screws. Tighten well so the rubber folds and the screw head receeds into the hole. Replace the little mat that covers the screws. The console should now be unmoveable.

Cost was $2.60 (including tax). I know I made the post a little long for such a simple fix, but I wanted to make sure I covered everything.

Cheers,
Matt

My console box is way too far gone for that fix to ever work!!

Thanks for making me realise that I'm missing the "floor mat" in the console. It should cover the custom piece of floor panel I made to fit/screw in the console box quite nicely.
