Unhappy They DO know......

Now I know what the others were referring to in their posts about our cars knowing about the meet......

My check engine light flickered on Saturday as I was driving to work and never came on again........until today.....I was running an errand when the light came on again and stayed. I pulled off to the side of the road and shut the engine off. I then restarted it and the light went out as it should. On my way home, it comes on and stays on. I'm guessing it's the oxygen sensor or something as this happend with my 92 when it had a similar amount of miles. Is there any way to diagnose this problem without taking it to the dealer? Luckily 'belle is covered under warranty, but the last time this happened I was without my car for several days. The other problem is that the Subaru dealer that I take her to is quite busy and are pretty well scheduled. I need this taken care of before the meet, otherwise I don't want to chance driving it with that light on until I know what it is. Will driving it if it is the oxygen sensor screw up something?

So sorry for the long post, but I'm at my wits end.......

Re: They DO know......

Here are some threads that explain reading the code. I wouldn't assume it's the O2 sensor though it's likely.

If you are OBDII. No coinholder, after mid 95.

Or like me, get 2 and just make sure they don't talk to each other. That way if one found out, you can still take the other one there.

Just throw some fuel injector cleaner at random occasions. It'll confuse it and fix itself and the light will go away. At least mine did...

Yes, the "Meet Monster" is REAL! It has struck me too many times. But, this time, I am laughing in its face! HAHAHAHAHA! I refuse to let it get me for this meet. So, there!

I followed the directions in the link that was provided and the check engine light never flashed. One question though...I have two of those black connectors. One has 10 wires going to it and the other has 19 going to it. The instructions said 16...now I'm confused.

Also, I found the two thicker blue wires and there was also a smaller blue wire with a white stripe on it. Should I have used that one? My car was manufactured 7/94 if that helps. This OBD stuff confused me for a bit......

Thanks again!!

What are you doing? If you car was done in 94, you should not have ODBII yet. Do not play with those wires. You can check the codes for check engine light by doing other things. Do a search on it.

I don't believe in jinx's. Actually, I'm taking the reverse approach. I worked hard to try not to jinx myself before previous meets, to no avail. So, I'm standing firm and proclaiming that the meet monster will no longer have me. I'm declaring it DEAD as far as I'm concerned.

Randy,

Dont me so smug. The anti-jinx jinx monster may just turn around and bite you. It's like the old message 40 gremlin. Just when you think that you have figured out a way to beat it, It does an about face and finds a way to shaft you.

Have a great 4th.

Kinda like the young Kentucky boy who asked his father, "why do they say 'take the tiger by the tail?'" To which his father replied, "'Cause they's teef on tha other en'"
