pretty cool stuff larry.
these kinds of projects will never fly though if they do not produce hp numbers similiar to IC engines. well at least not for adrenaline junkies like me. i do remember an electric high performance that had blazing speed. unfortunately it also had a very short range.
as far as the wankel engine is concerned it is making a return in the RX8. they changed the location of the exhaust ports to allow it to be more fuel efficeint and more environmentally friendly. amazingly it still provides 260 naturally aspirated horses. hope they come up with something reliable with the M project.

1994 SubaruSVX,
I don't think the RX-8 is a good example. The new RX-8 will be a terrific car, I hope. But the rotary engine will still be in a limited production vehicle. The RX-8 will be a high priced luxury Sports/GT (sound familar). The rotary engine (Wankle) is still an internal combustion engine. Maybe I did not get my point across. It is: Any new automotive propulsion system must do everything that current IC engines can do, plus the new system must be cheaper, safer, mre reliable, less polluting, and more efficient than IC engines. It's a very tough assignment. That's why you do not use pie in the sky (star wars or cold fusion) technology. Larry III |

Ron takes an old "Wonder Bra" and "Box-O Chaablis" out to his SVX. His SVX is sitting on jack stands. He opens the hood, hooks the bra to the bottom of the engine, takes the wine and a straw and crawls under the car.
Three hours later he is still under the car and his feet are twitching. I have no idea what he is doing and don't want to know. Larry III |

BTW
Kudos to you and your group Larry. All great ideas start on shaky ground. Just one question, why 'M'? Please don't say that it's because when someone asks a question the rest of the group says "Mmmmmmm....".

Beav,
RAC coined the term form the beginning of the project. All I can think of is a paraphrase of an old tune: "M is for the millions it will cost them." Larry III |

M and what it means
Oh this is sounding very interesting..
I'm no engineer by any means but not a stupid child either. Honda, Ford, GM, GM heavily has pourd in millions to this very same concept.. Your sorta at ground level re designing a WHeel. Is another way of putting it.. As you said Larry there are amny propulsion ideas... It's just mating the right ones together. Even the " green cars" we have today are not as practical as the dreamers had in mind at the start.. Good dream though.. You not talking about replacing the IC engine, just it's applied way of makin power... So far.. the state of CA is pushing hard on this, to have 0 emmission cars fairly soon... A certain percentage no less, I think like 10%... None the less it's an idea that has been approached by many for serveral decades. I wish your group the best of luck in your project. Keep us posted. Oh GM has also poured in serveral millions or billions in alternative fuel and/or propulsion... NO wonder they are calling.. If they think for even a min, your gang figured something out.. THey might very well beat a path to your door. Keeps us posted.. Promise to not share any trade secrets.. Happy engineering... SVX1999 |

SVX1999,
First, they are not my group. I did some initial engineering work for them during the conceptual stage of the project. The other night I saw an interview with Mike Kamin the super duper inventer of the Segway scooter. Anyhow, his latest project is trying to adapt a Stirling engine to purify water. This is an adaptation of existing technology to solve a problem. His engineers will have to come up with alot of solutions to make it work right. But if he suceeds a great service will be provided to the poorer peoples of the world. I hope he is sucessful.

SVX1999,
There are 3 "Mules" in the project. They are a Corolla , a Taurus wagon, & the SVX. Each car is used to test different aspects of a novel drive system. The SVX is a 93. It has remained AWD and is the only AWD vehicle in this group. Suprisingly, the wagon configuration was the most challenging design adaptation. The Corolla has the most miles, and (I am told) is the easiest to drive. That's all I can say. Larry III |
