speedo shaft..missing??

ok Im still going over my car after I had a shop pull my trans and replace the tube seal in the front diff..... The speedo didnt work after i picked it up. I pulled the sensor and the small shaft with the t shaped head.... WTF there is nothing under it!!! I took a look at a extra front diff I had laying around and I cant see how it could pushed all the way in with out hiting the ring gear and blowing my front diff to parts! My speedo worked on the way to the shop...and didnt on the way home... but did work one day for about 30 seconds...weird! Anyone seen this before? Now im worried to drive the car... but I have put 4 or 5 thousand miles on it since I picked it up... no noise in the diff.... once again I must say WTF!

Go back to the shop and tell them what happened, cause it seems like it may be their fault. People make mistakes and it happens all the time. But wait, it worked before, and not after except for one time???

well here is the full story... Im a ASE master tech but was in a wheel chair from a nast motorcycle wreck and had to pay to have my car hacked to all hell. The shop I used was a old friend I use to work at toyota with...his employe fu@$ed my car all up and I called him about it..he told me to bring it back but I was a bit uneasy to take it back (bolt lose, they mangled my flex plate...missing exaust gaskets, pinched lines on my rack, missing clamps, hole in trans lines, dip stick not bolted on...... and on and on and on...after 2 months waitingfor it) But it has been 8 months and his shop is about to go under (just filed BR)so now im out of the wheel chair and im not letting anyother hack touch my cars!

damn dude, basically been there thanks to a drunk driver who was under aged at that hitting me on my bike. ****ty times.

I don't know how you can have a signal one day and then not the next. It's a hall effect isn't it, square wave signal? either you have a transducer or you don't. need all the parts to be there for it to work.

So you think It fell off in your front diff cavity?

thats the only thing I can think of...but I messed with the other diff I had and i see no way it could do so with out the ring gear grabing it and slaming it through the diff case... there isnt even flakes in the fluid (on the stick) I was thinking it the speedo rod snaped in half maybe it just fell in..... I need to drain the fluid and look in the drain hole.....

" need to drain the fluid and look in the drain hole"
good idea, cause you just never know until you find out.

sounds like they installed it incorrectly and shaved all the teeth off the speedo sensor.. or the harness is unplugged
