Two different rack and pinion assemblies?

There are 3 different steering racks.

1) The standard rack. Fitted to the USDM base model and JDM S3 model.
2) The speed-sensitive rack. This is the most common one. Fitted to almost all JDM, Euro and higher-spec USDM models.
3) The 4WS front rack. Fitted to the JDM VL model. Rare outside of Japan.

Could you tell me the physical differences between the first two?

Type 2 has an electrically operated solenoid valve. It's a cylinder, with an electrical connection, next to where the steering column attaches.

Type 1 does not have this. The gear ratio inside is also different.
