ot/spam mail
How do I get rid of the annoying crap? The unsubscribe link doesn't work. Is there a trick to it?
matt

Use filters, if you've got that option, and never respond to them! Even if it's to "unsubscribe" The link usually doesn't work, and if it does, it's usually more ads or to target your e-mail address for more spam.

Dr. Kuoh is right, if you respond to them they know they've hit upon a good address. In other words, so many people change addys, give false ones, etc. and if there's no response nothing further happens. However if you do respond...
I know this doesn't help now but in the future if a site requires an e-mail address either give a false one (1@2.com is one of my favs) or open a hotmail account and use it for garbage like that. At least that way you won't have to sort through the spam to find your 'real' mail.

Ok, I'll just start deleteing them when I get them and see what happens. Gotta check about that filter thing.
thanks, matt

Ignoring them won't stop them either, but at least it won't increase their frequency. As for the filter, that depends on your mail client or server. It doesn't stop them from coming, but makes it goes straight to the trash can.

If you have Outlook or Outlook Express as a mail client you can set a message rule to delete all mail from any specified server from your server before you see it. This works fine for trash sources like "freeporn.com". For servers that MIGHT send valid mail like AOL or Yahoo, I set a rule to delete it and just check my deleted mail folder occasionally. I NEVER open unsolicited email, just right click, add the source to my long list and delete it. Phew

Most spam have forged FROM addresses anyway, so a NDR from you would probably also bounce. The best option is to ignore/filter the spam or blackhole the sender's IP.

You can't blackhole unless you run your own mail server.
If you're e-mail sits on an ISP's server, then the best thing you can do is to filter them. KuoH |
