I didn't see the dash light flicker, but it's possible it did so briefly I missed it.

Trevor... this is a very troublesome problem. I need to look at the wiring for the ignition switch but i am not sure I whic wires I would need to bridge... Just seems a little too off the wall for the ignition to drop its current randomly and only at speed Tom |

Yes off the wall for sure, but elctrickery is like that. My intent was to save you some frustration, if you decided to proceed down this path. The problem could exist even, though the lights do not flicker, given the possible time delay. In the event that you wish to proceed, you could hot wire from battery positive to of fuse No. 18, so as to provide a parallel direct feed to the ignition switched circuitry. In the circumstances, you will have to leave a link in place during test runs over a period. I suggest that you make up a lead fitted with a clip which can be attached/detached from the battery and incorporating a 10 -15 amp in line fuse, then insert some strands with fuse 18. Make certain the circuit is complete with the ignition switch off, and you will be in business. Be assured that this will be much simpler than messing about with the ignition switch and associated wiring.

If I can find a good ignition switch I will pick one up. If not, I will go ahead and try to hotwire the ignition as you have stated... I just cannot figure why it would only do it at speed... I guess it could be the resonance of vibrations that causes a short but thats a stretch... Just doesn't make logical sense even if it physically fixes the problem

What type of air filter does the car have? (Yes, this is relevant)
Swap out the MAF just for a moment with another SVX then drive and see if the problem goes away. Would love to hear the results.

I called Subaruparts.com. I can buy a new ignition switch for about $38.00 plus shipping -- part# 83131PA00
The person I spoke to named George also suggested: check wiring to injector, all connections to ignition, all connections to injectors, all relay connections, check all grounds, control unit connection -- he said that because the car wasn't driven a lot it could be a corrosion problem. The car has an OEM Subaru air filter -- new in January 07 -- bought as part of the tune up kit from Subaruparts.

Bridging the ignition will get number one suspect out of the way. Don't be tempted to grope about. Science is your friend.

Dan... I checked all those connections for visual fault the other day... I took a lot of time under that hood just waiting for something to be out of place... Chris, I have dealt with this issue before and a MAF does not fix it... I cleaned his with MAF cleaner to no difference

I haven't checked to see if you posted or not. But have you checked to see if you have a leaky injector or injectors. The injectors have O rings in side the actual injector. If you use a lot of fuel cleaner, gas with alcohol, or a high water concentration in the gas, it can make the O ring crack 0and the injector will not be accurate. You could notice this at low rpm, high load when the cylinders don't burn as efficient.
You would probably need to replace the whole injector, or send it to be flo tested. You could also have bad O rings the seal the injector in the rail. Just a thought

And no codes from the SVX?
Have you to tried taking it to get the fuel injectors professional cleaned? Maybe one is bad?? Just a guess...

I ordered a switch assembly ($38) from subaruparts.com. I should have it by Monday and we'll see if that helps.
