I think it's a great idea as long as you start with a fairly thrashed SVX. Course, there probably aren't many left after certain people continually purchase SVXs with the slightest rust bubble, declare them totalled, and then totally dismantle a perfectly roadworthy car and sell parts on ebay.

If you were worried about having raw hp, you probably should have bought something else from the start.
Hate to say it, but I definitly agree... The SVX is unique and special... it should stay that way...

And an LS1, RWD, Fast SVX wouldn't be unique or special?

What's so special about our slow ass cars that having an LS1 under the hood wouldn't improve?

Personally I think a V8 RWD SVX would be a total blast to drive. And it'd be fun to drift with.

Perhaps it's just me, but the engine is part of the soul of the car. Would you take a 65 Mustang and drop in an SR20DET (or insert other random modern riceburner engine here)?

If the 65 had no collectors value and the swap improved the car in almost every way.....sure why not

Although i do think the uniqueness and rarity of a flat 6 is something special

People drop chevy v8s into older Rx7s all the time, and htey're a great track car.

IF the car had come with enough power to begin with, we wouldn't be talking about all this turbo/supercharger/engine swap nonsense. But it didn't. Every other japanese halo car offered a turbo version, except subaru, even though they had turbo experience. Why? Who knows. But it killed the SVX.

I say do it! If you have done your research, forget what anyone has to say. Do it, put up pics, video, dyno, whatever. Some of us would love it, some hate it and some will be hatin' on you for doing it.

It won't happen though because you asked our opinions. Heck, I'm still mentally toying with the idea of somehow having someone put a motorcycle engine in a Subaru Justy! I talked to my wife about it earlier this week and she just

I was thinking maybe even a snowmobile engine (1000cc thundercat or ZRT600/800)

it might never happen but i can honestly say i was moments away from bidding on an lt1 this past winter. I am still very on the fence about it simply because I dont have the welding experience to make motormounts and such. Plus the SVX is currently my daily driver so I cant afford months of down time. hopefully after college

I applaud the idea. Would love to see it. I like crazy conversions. I hope you go through it. Here is another crazy conversion I saw after reading your post. A Dodge V10 Viper engined motorcycle. "The Dodge Tomahawk can reach 60 miles an hour in about 2.5 seconds, and has a theoretical top speed of nearly 400 mph."
http://www.allpar.com/cars/concepts/tomahawk.html

Ok...back on topic.

No, because a stock Mustang engine makes more power than one of those. Also I assume you're referencing fast and furious 3, in which they used a rb20 engine not an sr20.. but anyways we're not talking about swapping out V8's for riceburner engines, the thread discussion is the opposite.

230 hp isn't enough for what exactly?
