SVX appreciation from a non SVX owner

hi I just wanted to say I'm so impressed with the SVX that I decided to check out what the svx community was like also

My friend recently bought a '93 SVX (black) with 60,000kms on it in the month of June

at first i was really skeptical of his car. the windows looked funny and SVX's don't come with a manual tranny so my first impressions were very low

the first thing he did with his car was add his sound system but the 2 woofer box he had didnt fit in the trunk and i wasn't too impressed on how small that trunk was. then the nexdt thing he did was tint his windows black,... wow what a difference this made.. I think all SVX's should get their windows tinted.. this makes the car look amazing and sleek. Then driving this car converted me into a fan.. the car handles great and the acceleration is pretty damn good (i think the 94 octane gas he puts helps) especially when u hit the gas petal twice really fast to open up the valves. The leather seats are amazingly comfortable and don't become all crusty and peel off like my mx6 (also '93). and when we are driving at a relatively high speed witht the windows open i finally realized why the svx has funny windows.. it blocks all the wond from blowing in ur face.

he's had the car for less than 5 months now and he's already driven the car to 105,000kms with a few reperations (notably the catalytic converters broke which were a fortune). but this car has really impressed me and its a pity that there aren't more of these cars around.

Anyways the reason why i registered on these forums is that my friend is also looking to improve his performance on the SVX. I wanted to know what are and where to get performance mods that help at a relatively reasonable price and also i wanted to know if there are any professional SVX mechanics in the montreal area where we could feel safe doing really big performance upgrades such as adding a turbo or changing the tranny to a 5speed

any suggestions or comments would be appreciated thanks

Thumbs up

Welcome to the site. The SVX is definitely one amazing car. Your friend seems to have found a good one!

Hi, welcome to the site and have a good time.

the thing that you are talkin abt hitting the gas twice is known as 'power' mode and u can see a green light with label 'power' will lit in the dashboard. I dont know whether it is there in canada version.

Welcome and thanks!

I caught that 94 octane comment, and since the highest we can get in Vegas is 91 octane, I am jealous!!

In VA, most Sunoco gas stations sell 94 octane. There's one about 6 miles from my house!

I thought the POWER light came on when the tranny is slipping? Anyways tell me more about this double-tapping the gas thing.. never heard of that.

Yeh, you are right. The power light indicates 2 different conditions which are realted to tranny.
1) If the POWER light blinks as soon as you start the car, then it indicates some problem with tranny system. The problem can be easily found by counting the number of times it blinks.
2) If the POWER light lit up when u floor the gas real quick while driving. This indicates the tranny is engaged into 'POWER' mode, this is typically a situation where the TCU maps the tranny to higher range shifts and increases the power/speed. Power mode upshifts at higher engine speeds for increased acceleration.

For detailed description about 'POWER' light check out Earthworm's website here

hope you udnerstand

Then I can't wait to get back to the East coast.

I think we are suffering from all the "green laws" of California. All of our gas comes from California refineries.

There is no 93 SVX in Canada. Since he didn't mention the auto seatbelts or interior color it's probably a 94 or newer.

Welcome to the site!

Well there's definitely 92's, 94's and 97's here. Unsure about 95's and 96's.
