Sadly, that isn't an option for me right now. That is however the strategy I employed until I moved to Seattle where most rental property parking options are dissappointing to say the least.

BTW, what's being done in terms of investigating the theft? Have prints been lifted off the car or any of the items found within?

I find it strange that the vehicle was recovered but none of the things inside it were kept as evidence for the investigation (e.g. the Bambi tape). Is the local PD taking your case seriously at all?

Basically, they don't investigate thefts in any way. If they caught someone in the car they'd pursue it but otherwise they have no interest in looking into it at all. Really lame.

At least from what I've learned recovering vehicles here is common. In Phoenix what seemed to happen most was the joy ride ended in the desert with the car being torched.

What a nice way of enforcing the law... So basically, I can steal any car I feel like, and as long as I drop it off after I'm done joyriding it, I'm good to go.

Sweet... Now if I could just get my hands on a 1997 993 911 GT2 (that's a lot of 9's!)

Actually, it is worse than that. Feel free to strip it or crash it as well. There were several cars in the impound that had been recently recovered that were completely stripped. Basically what I was told is that unless it is a "crime in progress" nothing much is going to get looked into. Someone actually went through the trouble of getting things fingerprinted privately and gave them to the police. The only action they took was to file them with the report.

Most disturbing. Hopefully Karma will bite them right where the sun don't shine.

So, to bring the topic back on track... What are good alarm options? Are clifford alarms still good?

So what is the insurance company going to do. Are they going to settle on the car?

It is being looked at now. I expect if there is no serious mechanical issue they'll fix it and I'll get it back. By the way, they had valued it at $6090.

Just an fyi insurance goes down if you have an alarm with a digital remote/pager that tells you when it's going off. These can be installed for $400-$500+. Normal alarms do nothing for insurance, but the blinking light they have just may be enought to scare someone off.. Most normal ones also won't let you start the car if they've been triggered and not disarmed by the owner. You can find those for relatively cheap. I'm saving for the remote pager one though, because the SVX is worth it to me.

So I'm told I get my car back tomorrow. I definitely need to do something about an alarm immediately. I don't want to get her fixed back right and let the same creep steal her again!

In MA you get a pretty good discount with an alarm installed. Any alarm.
