9005 conversion
I plan on doing the 9005 conversion in a week or so, and was wondering if anyone had just purchase the 9005 socket/wire kit you can get at WallyWorld (about $8 for both sides) instead of cutting/grinding on the bulb housing* itself??? You know cut the 9006 socket off and splice and wrap/heatshrink the new wire/socket into place instead of modifing the bulb, saving you from having to mod the bulb everytime you have to change em'
Also anyone out there try or hear anything about the GE Nighthawk bulbs? *edit-for the conceptualy challanged

Thats what I meant, you cut the bulb housing to fit the 9006 socket onto a 9005 bulb, where as splicing in a 9005 socket (bout' the same amount of work) you don't have to do it every time you replace bulbs (which while hopefully not often, will happen) So there's really nothing to fix on this thread.

It is the light housing that is another problem, so you would have to grind that off even if you replaced the socket.

Modding the bulb to fit takes like 5 seconds anyway. Its not hard at all with an exacto knife!

Didn't think it was hard or time consuming, just looking to make the long term process eaiser (and a touch quicker), would it be possible to cut/grind the light housing without any negitive effects??

I dont think there would be any negative effects of modding the housing. I think it would be a PITA to do that though. But i dont think there should be any negative effects of doing it

The answer is yes, and it's not a bad idea at all. The only other thing you have to do to the bulb is cut a little bit off of one of the tabs to make it go in the housing. No big deal at all.
