Need tire advice.

First off, does anyone have any idea what sort of rims these are?

(Waiting for a response from the seller for specifics)

I don't even know if they're the same size as OEM.

I'd like to find an affordable set of snow tires to get me through the winter and then pick up a nice set of A/S when spring rolls around.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I wouldn't consider myself a spirited driver.. Just a Point A - Point B type of guy.

I'd prefer long-lasting and a quite ride.

Thay are not OEM. I have never seen them before. They look nice, if a little harder to keep clean than the originals.

They seem to me to be larger than standard, 17" or maybe even 18". These will require a more expensive lower profile than the standard tyres.

If you look at the centre of the rims, you will see they have a lot of holes. This is a give-away for aftermarket rims. The manufacturers do this so the rim will fit more than one bolt spacing profile, i.e. more than one type of car.

Being bigger diameter rims, an advantage, if you want to use it, would be the car can now accept bigger brake disks and better than standard callipers. This would be a really GOOD THING TO DO, particularly well worth doing for the front wheels only. If you have the money.

You will get lot of local advice on tire choice. I am running my third set of Sava tires, they are really good for the money, and especially quiet, which is what I like. Next week I am buying another set for my Legacy twin-turbo. If you can find them, don't be put off by the low price.

I have no idea what I was thinking when I wrote that.. I know very well what the OEM rims look like (...and rather prefer them to these, anyone wanna swap? )

As for the rest, can you give me a little more details on the tires you use? Are they A/S?

As always, all advice is appreciated.

I use sumitomo tires. Very good tires at a cheap price and they wear very slow. I got mine for 88 bucks a piece but im sure you could probably get it below that now on tirerack.com ....I think mine are H rated. If you look on the tire of that car you should be able to get the specifics.

Tires

I also use Sumitomo tires. HTR+ Z-rated. Check the tire rack for cheap prices. They wear very slow compared to say Bridgestones that my model year came with. They are not the most quiet tires but all things considered I would buy again. Good luck.

I agree with Joe that the wheels in your photo look to be 17-inch or larger.

My car came with T-rated (118 mph) Bridgestone Potenzas on stock (16-inch) wheels. In 14,000+ miles of conservative, daily driving with an occasional mountain road romp thrown-in, I'm pleased with their wear and performance.

Snow Tires

I am running Hankook W404 205/55-16's for snow tires. These are T rated studless snow tires that I got for about $95 each at discount tire. They are phenomenal in the snow, but I won't put them on until a decent amount of snow has fallen. They are a bit loud and flex a lot more than my summer tires.

If you are looking for snow tires that you can drive on the highway with, these are quite nice. The dry performance isn't great, but pretty good for a snow tire. I have put one season on these tires and I like them a lot. Went through 14" snow with no problem. I run these on stock wheels. 205 is much narrower than stock, but cuts through snow really well.

Well. The current owner knows they're 17" rims... I don't know if thathelps me or not.. They don't know anything else about them and don't have the OEM rims.

I've got the HTR+ tires too. Good handling in snow, but very loud on bare bavement IMHO. For your driving style, I'd suggest the Continental Extreme Contacts. Lots of people say they are awesome in the snow, average handling on bare bavement (for an all season ultra high performance tire), and very quiet.

I think 17" is a good compromise. The tyres will not be too low a profile. Too low, and the ride suffers, and worse, you burst a tyre if you hit a pot-hole, assuming you got pot-holes in Wisconsin.

When it comes to winter tires I would probably say you won't go wrong with any winter tire. I got my set for CAD$74/tire or approx USD$50 each.

The Dunlop Graspics that I have really show how bad Yokohama AVS db S2's are on snow/ice!
