I need better MPG ASAP........

Hello all you SVX owner out there in SVX land.

How's it going?

How would you like to get about 40 mpg in the SVX?

So would I.

We all know, I am assuming we all know, or at least I think this is true.

We get better gas mileage on long trips on the highway. I think this is because it takes about 20 minutes to get the AT warmed up.

So how about a tranmission heater?

I love my car and I do not want to give it up.

How about new CAM shafts for better gas mileage?

Smaller injectors?

Is there a propane change over kit?

Anything?

Lower compression and use regular gas?

What about those little flapper plates in the WRX intakes?

I would give up 30 HP or more for more mpg.

I average about 24 mpg drive 60 miles at a time.

Switching to skinnier tires (like 195's) will improve your fuel economy...

Another trick drag racers use is to disconnect the belt that drives the A/C...

The last time I checked, drag racers were interested in raw power and not fuel efficiency.

I will agree, though, that not using the AC, or not driving it in the first place, will help. It won't get you 40mpg out of the SVX (nothing practical will, as far as I'm concerned), but it's a start I guess.

Thumbs up

Disconnecting the A/C drive belt does both! Slightly better mpg and more power! On SVT Lightnings, one guy I knew did that and his mpg increased by about 0.5-0.8 while his RWHP went up by about 5. Every car is different though...

BTW, some drag racers would also free up hp by switching from a radiator fan that is driven by the engine, to an electric one driven from the alternator. This would also improve fuel economy...

True, but the SVX already has electric radiator fans. In addition to drag racers doing it, it's also a common upgrade for older cars... my brother and I did that with our old BMW 2002s.

What would I do if I HAD to get more mpg out of a car ....let's see...

1. Buy "green" tires with less rolling resistance, pref. in a narrower dimension, and then use highest possible pressure in them.

2. Remove the outer rearview's ...! yes they DO count.

3. Making sure that everything in the engine, that has to do with fuel economy, is in top shape.

4. Check ALL bearings in the drivetrain, and change them if necessary, then relube both the new AND the old one's with a GOOD PTFE lube.

5. Change the oil in front & rear diff with the "slickiest" made and suited for the SVX.

6. Same for the engine.

7. Get a electric motor heater, like the ones that EVERY car has in the cold climate countries (like here)

8. Get a "driving computer" that ypu can use to actually see the momen. gas consumption, and tailor your driving habits to get the most of every gallon of fuel.

..and...and... eehh ..

...Well, there my brain core dumped

HOW TO INCREASE YOUR GAS MILEAGE IN TWO EASY STEPS:

STEP 1) Sell your SVX, which has way too much horsepower and creature comforts and weight to be good on gas.

STEP 2) Buy a Loyale sedan, manual shift with no AC or power windows.

Hey, it's not a cool car, nor is it fast or powerfull, or stylish or unique, or comfortable.....but you don't want those features do you? You want gas mileage!

No.

It places a filter where the was none, eg. less flow. The website is mostly marketing mumbo-jumbo. I'm going to go ahead and say that would be a waste of money.

Well I don't want to use another car I like the SVX. I feel safe in it and I like to drive it. Yeah I know it's heavy and has nice creature comforts. That's why I like to drive it So I know it's not practical to get 40 mpg out of it. I'll settle for 38.

How about the cold air intake? Coasting down hills? Getting the tranny TC to lock-up in lower gears?

What would have to be done to burn regular gas???? What would that cost in power?
