Question Tps

Does anybody know how to check the TPS. I believe I've found it (on driver's side of engine by throttle body?) but I don't know how to access the wires to measure the resistance. Any suggestions?

I don't care if Subaru says it's STI...it will always be STi to me

Pay a visit to your favorite tranny tech. Mine was able to change a shift point by adjusting the TPS. Should be able to answer your questions.

There are three contact pins that are real hard to get too. I suggest mini alegator clips and long leads. But even with this it is a pain.

I matched marked mine and took it out. Then I check the resistance. But this is hard to do also. You are looking for the slightest change in resistance that is not consistant with the motion of the sensor.

I am buying a new one to run a comparison.

I turned my TPS up a little and it stopped a slipping problem I was having at light throttle load, slipping from 2nd to 3rd. I turned it too much the first time and the idle speed went up. About an 1/8 inch. Ended up turning it clockwise about a 1/16 inch.

Did your idle speed change?

I'm confused

I'm pretty lost here. I haven't done anything. Will turning the TPS adjust the tranny to eliminate any sort of shudder or just slippage. I'm not sure I understand just how it works. I know that it is a variable resistor, and I understand what you're saying about looking for any un-smooth changes in resistance, but I don't understand how it affects shudder or slippage or anything.

Just for a little light reading, here's a thread where the TPS was discussed pretty heavily. Just thought it might help.
