Tourist

Does anyone have a good copy of the so-called "tourist" picture, that seems to show a tourist atop the WTC with an airliner coming at the tower? I got a xerox copy of a xerox copy from a fellow teacher yesterday, and I can't see too many details. Personally I think it is a fake; several features in the picture, and the story of how it "came to be" are a bit much to swallow, but I would still like to see a better picture. Pictures just don't tell the story the way they used to....

Does anyone have one to post? Thanks....Don

CGLathrop,
Thanks so much! The second picture does speak for itself doesn't it? I still look at the pieces of the "exoskeleton" of those towers, sticking up out of the debris like some fantasy apocalyptic painting....with disbelief. I got a new copy of National Geographic about the time of the attacks. On one page is a picture of a man changing the light atop the Empire State Building. Behind him in the distance, the World Trade Towers simply DOMINATED the skyline. I can't imagine how New Yorkers, glancing skyward expecting to see them as before, must have vivid flashbacks of that terrible day and the loss of so many people....

CLLathrop,

Thanks for the second picture. I liked it very much.
I believe the first photo is a hoax. In that picture you are looking northward toward the Empire State Bld'g. However, some of the NYC skyline is wrong. Where are the Pan Am Bld'g. & RCA Bld'g. (old names)?

"Tourist" picture...

For anyone really interested, I think this might be a clearer copy of the infamous picture.

I personally think it is a hoax as well, I haven't seen any "reputable" media (if there is such a thing, but you know what I mean) displaying this or for that matter, the FBI, if they supposedly "released it" from where did they do this? Their web site? It's not there.

Of course a million other questions come up about the skyline, the cold-weather clothing in summer, the fact they are taking this pic as the jet is about to hit them, etc. But my question is for any of you that have been to the WTC towers. Being from Seattle, we have the Space Needle, a little over 600 feet high I believe. If you go to the observation deck up there it has guard rails plus clear panels going up 7 feet high. And then in the 80's after a few people climbed over that to parachute (successfully, though right into jail) or commit suicide (also "successfully") they added steel cables across the top of the observation deck so you are pretty boxed in. So my assumption would be that at the WTC, nearly twice as tall as the Space Needle, there would be a little more than a waist high guard rail. But maybe I'm wrong?

Maybe I am Wrong

Troy,

A buddy of mine who was just there in NY back in July took pics of him and his family on top of the WTC. And if my memory serves me correctly that was the only railing up there. He is LAPD so I dont know if that got him in an area where others dont normally go or not.

Surprises me, but that is probably it. Probably takes a couple incidents before these places worry about the extra safety devices perhaps. It is just crazy to think those buildings are gone now. In the last two weeks my wife and I have seen lots of old movies and TV reruns take place in New York with the WTC prominently in the skyline shots. Brings a lump to my throat every time.

It is wierd yes. I have noticed the same thing. Someone in here has a great picture of their SVX with the NY skyline in the background and the WTC towers right behind them. Whoever that is can you go back and take another one in the same place. Would kind of be funcky to see. Maybe sometime in the future though.

Since I have never been to NY and NOT seen the WTC towers that would be the only reference from what it was to what it is. I certainly mean NO disrespect to anyone. Call it idol curiosity.

Ciao

That was my thougths and co-workers as well. Plus there are NO jet streams off the engines. usually right behind the engines the picture should be blurry.

It's fake. No dougt in my mind.
