Goodbye Mr. Peck & Mr. Brinkley
I know, this sentiment has nothing to do with cars, but I was greatly saddened that two of our most enduring icons have left us today.
When I was a young snot, David Brinkley "made" me listen to the news & instilled a value in me to keep up with world events. Gregory Peck was the understated hero who just seemed to take on "evil" & eliminate it without so much as one karate chop to anyone's head. If any of you younger members have never seen "To Kill a Mockingbird", please do. Farewell gentlemen. I, for one, will miss you & all that you contributed to our lifespans. Ron.

Yes Ron,
I saw it on our TV news an hour ago and heard about it in the early morning radio news. Might have even known ahead of you because of the time thing. Did not know much of Brinkley but Peck was world renowned. I was saying to my wife, who has a lot of acting experience in amateur theatre, that Peck was a REAL actor, not just a result of hollywood hype, who could make a good job of any role. He was great even as an old man. Regards, Trevor.

David Brinkley
Made what was becoming tired and dull (50's TV news), bright and witty. He knew when to be quiet and let the newsmakers make the news. His comments were intelligent and concise. Oh for the days of Huntley and Brinkley again...
Mr Peck will live forever! 12 o'clock High, Moby Dick, To Kill a Mockingbird and yes even the Boys from Brazil... So many films Such a great actor...

Ron,
Definitely well said. The scary thing is that these things usually come in threes...who's next, Bob Hope? -Bill

RIP
Ron
Thanks for the nice few words. Was not aware of the deaths. Mr Peck certainly was a good actor. I regard The Boys From Brazil as one of his better efforts, great character, and an under-rated movie. Guys, things don't really happen in threes. Our brains are intrigued by the concept of co-incidence, and we "assign" signifigance to another event coming up in close proximity, just to prove our suspicions are right. Both of these men are high profile media people of a certain age. If anyone dies in the near future, comedian, golfer, actor, news anchor etc etc, we will say, see, I told you so. It is easy to have co-incidence, when our imagination allows us such a broad field of possible matches. Joe [Non superstitious and world class pedantic ]

superstition? nah, just mental association. I think it comes down to a "era think" and the fact that many folks in an era that we all associate with get "old" at the same time and subsequently die around the same time. I associate this phenomenon with the statistical probability that, in a crowded bar, there is a high probability you'll find at least two people with the same birthday.

And Hume Croyne makes three...
well, it wasn't Bob Hope after all. I'm sure he's in a good place with his wife who passed on a year or so ago.
