oooooh the brake woes again! need help.

hello all,

Finally after waiting too long, my svx decided to loose its front brake pads, and I got rotors and pads!

BUT

I broke the damn bolt holding my left front caliper bracket in place, the lower
of the two, the bolt will not come out, when red hot, or anything,

I plan on drilling it out possibly, tapping and using the next size bolt,

Does anyone have a better suggestion, or a bracket.

Re: oooooh the brake woes again! need help.

Where did the bolt snap off? Did only the head go, or the entire shaft leaving only the threaded portion in the bracket? Bear with me, what I'm about to suggest may sound completely idiotic, but it does work.

If you've still got the shaft of the bolt you can re-install the bracket to the knuckle. Slide the stub into the hole (tehehehe ) and use the good bolt to secure the whole thing. I had this exact situation occur with the Forester, and got by like this for long enough to get a reman calliper. Obviously don't drive like a tool.

There should be someone on here with a spare calliper bracket they can sell you, which will be better than drill/tapping your current one. If that hole is on an angle it won't fit, and if you go undersized it will allow the calliper to move around under braking torque.

This suggestion applies if you need to get the car back on the road right away. If you've got a DD and don't need the SVX right now, just throw it on a jackstand and wait for someone to sell you a bracket.

Re: oooooh the brake woes again! need help.

Right now shes up in the Air, THANKFULLY my coworker lives in the same city as me, (we both drive 42 miles each way!) so, we share the ride often, and until the svx is back on the road, she can sit....

and for your crazy thought, it is in my head as well, there was enough sticking out that removal was pretty hard and I slipped the rotor and caliper off at a weird angle,

but someone I need a bracket, I phos dipped, and pre coated and baked on my brake caliper paint! along with new seals and pad, Id hate to have to buy an entire caliper when I remanufactured the one I have
