Counting CEL. Flashes

Any easy way to count the flashes . I am having a H 3 11 of a time . I am counting. And all of a sudden I realize. They changed to fast and I don't know if it is 4 slow and 5 fast or 3 slow and. 6 fast ( what ever )

Re: Counting CEL. Flashes

As I recall it's pretty straightforward: long flashes are maybe a one-thousand-one count, followed by rapid blinks. Then it repeats. Just watch carefully.

A few years ago I needed to read the blinky lights on a 1990 Chevy.
Could not do it.
Got my 18 YO son Nick to read it for me.
Not a problem.

Film it with an Iphone and watch it in slow motion.

Re: Counting CEL. Flashes

Looks like I have
37. Oxygen 2 LH
And a 57 EGR problem
I thought I had a 38 but makes no sense with a 5 speed
Whatq is the consensus ? Bad 02 sensor causing the problem
Running rich , sounds like driver side making the most noise.

Conn, I'm getting 56 (EGR system) and 34(EGR solenoid) on mine.
For me they always come together.
Might want to count them flashes again?

This reminds me, I need to clear those codes and run my svx through emissions.. it was due in march..
Stupid EGR...

Re: Counting CEL. Flashes

Problem is the car is not running right. If I did have a bad plug or coil pack it still is ont on the code list. No injector showed up for sure. 0 2 won't cause it to run rich or lean? Seems like it has power , just feels like it is struggling on 5 or 4 instead of all 6....

Re: Counting CEL. Flashes

You can take it to a dealer and have them read it on the Subaru Select Monitor. Otherwise just have a few other people try to verify your counts. I don't think those codes will make it drive worse.

I can confirm that codes 34 and 56 do not make my SVX drive worse.
If it wasn't for the CEL I wouldn't even know it was stuck..
Its been like that for 2 years now in my svx, even passed emissions just by turning off the CEL...

And I can confirm that code 37 (LH O2) does make it run worse. It stumbles and hesitates like OP said and idles way too low but never stalls. 37 is the only one I've ever had and it comes on consistently after a few minutes of normal driving. If I accelerate hard up to ~5000rpm or so it clears itself and is fine until next time I start it. No answers on a cure though.

Re: Counting CEL. Flashes

How tight do you tighten a spark plug? I was told TIGHT you have to crush the crush washer. Repair guy used a torque wrench. He said about 15 lb. also said about 1/2 turn after finger tight . Not as tight as a bolt.
Car up and running STRONG .....!
