Broken shifter cable: how do you tow the car?
Hey guys,
I got the transmission issues ironed out (turned out to be a faulty driveshaft that was causing all this unusual vibration). I sold the car since then to a friend. Last week the shifter cable broke and the car is in park. We tried moving the cable with pliers from under, but it wont move. Any ideas on how to get the car towed? Also I'd be grateful if someone was helpful enough to point out what the part number I need to order that cable. I can't find it with any related terms I can think of. |

Ok part number found: 35151PA000 under the description Cable assembly-select lever
Now all I need to know is how to get that car in drive or worst case in neutral. |

Re: Broken shifter cable: how do you tow the car?
Disconnect the cable from the lever on the side of the tranny and move it (lever) by hand to drive - three clicks from the park position .
If you have parked nose up or down you may need to take weight of the vehicle off the park ratchet (someone push the car just a bit) - it will be too hard to move the lever by hand otherwise. Remember that the car will not start in "D". Tapani |

Thanx! Is that accessible from the engine bay or do I have to disconnect it from under?

Re: Broken shifter cable: how do you tow the car?
From under, it is on the passenger side of the transmission, just above the front of the pan.
It is the black lever in this picture. The shift indicator is the plastic switch behind it.

Re: Broken shifter cable: how do you tow the car?
Excellent! I was able to get the car in neutral and reverse but not in drive... didn't have enough leverage with my hand down the engine bay with my arm fully extended. So my friend drove 2 miles in reverse to get the car at the mechanic's.
