Don't bother checking the CTS... just change it, it's 5bux.

Re: Riddle me this...won't start

So by way of update.

We've tried good spares of the AFM, and ignitor.

We've installed new plugs, fuel pump etc.

Tried my spare main relay, disconnected the O2 sensors mechanically etc.

The situation is the same...every morning (or after it's been sitting for more than about 6 hours) it'll fire for about 1 second...then stop, and you can't get it going again.

Tried flooring it one of the times it started, but nothing...still died.

Am tempted to try an ECU, but I only have spares from a 92...anybody know if there's any major ECU differences between the 95 and the 92 (in Australian cars?)

Thanks again,
Matt

Matt,
Have you checked/replaced the CTS? You might also want to swap out the cam and crank sensors with ones you know are good. They can be tempermental as they are dying.

Re: Riddle me this...won't start

If the engine temperature sensor is faulty the ecu stops using it and assumes the temp is normal operating temperature.

Small detail but it means that the mixture should be fairly lean... not as rich as it would be for a cold motor and certainly not as rich as a freezing motor.

Re: Riddle me this...won't start

If there are no codes they we can assume it is either a mechanical fault or the power to the ecu is not getting through.

Have they tried a compression test? Vaxuum test? (hard if it won't work I guess). Checked the cam belt timing?

Re: Riddle me this...won't start

I don't see any mention of the fuel relay being checked either. Has it been checked?
Have they tried starting it with a fuel pressure gauge attached?

If they don't have a suitable gauge you can get a pretty good idea if there is pressure in the fuel lines by squeezing them in your fingers.

Try squeezing a fuel hose with the key off and before you start it for the first start of the day. Then get someone to turn the key on and the hose should bulge slightly. Now start the car and if the pressure drops off you have found your problem.
