Rack Part Number

Is the part number for the road speed sensitive rack the same as the engine speed sensitive rack?

I should think so. I believe the "speed sensitive" components are more tied to the pump, than the rack. The parts catalogue only lists one part number for the rack (34116PA000), but, lists separate part #'s for LS and LS-L models for Gear assy, pinion, housing and pump. Also lists separate numbers for oil pressure feed tubes, both upper and lower.

Randy,

Thanks for the reply. So I guess if I (or someone else) look(s) in the SM, there will be a different control circuit for the two types of racks.

John,
Please post the good, bad and ugly of replacing the rack. When I was under there looking at stuff, the rack looked like a tuff item to get out of its home.

Has anyone seen a quick rack listed anywhere for the SVX ? I.E. to give higher geared steering.

Trevor,

I have not seen a quick rack. I hope you find one.

Everyone else, the Service Manual shows a different rack for the electronic speed control LS-L as opposed to the engine speed type. The rebuilder I talked with says there is only one part number. My rack is okay. I am just trying to find a used one for future use.

See the SM section 4-3, page 25, figure 30.

Is there an equivelent rack used by another manufacturer, i.e. is this a Subaru only manufactured item ? In all probability it is not although there may be some small differences which could be modified.

I also have in mind that a quick rack is fitted to the SVX full rally versions. For those wanting to DRIVE QUICKLY upping the steering gear ratio is a no, 1.
