engine removal with 2002 wrx tranny... cannot separate tranny/engine???

as the title says, i am stuck and it sucks.

i have the engine completely unhooked, all mating bolts removed, etc.
it is hanging by the cherry picker. i have the tranny jacked up with a tranny jack.
the gap between the motor and tranny in 1" all around... the motor is wiggleing and feels like it will go....

WTF?
4 hours of shimmy, pry, pull, adjust, yank, cry, jam, and frustrations.

the clutch seems to be holding it. is there a trick with WRX clutches?

the new clutch, upon examination, holds the throwout bearing in place with a "click" and i think that is what is holding me up. my question:
how the **** do i get it unhooked?
i took off the starter, the slave cylinder, and everything i can think of short of pulling the tranny too.

please help.
thanks! a MILLION!

There is a rod that gets pulled out of the transmission right next to where the starter is... There is usually a 10mm or 14mm allen plug that holds the rod in. Take the plug out of the transmission and use a spare 6x1.0mm bolt to thread into the clutch rod and pull it out. Then you can pull the clutch fork up and out of the release bearing.
