Question Help--Need Car Manual

I have a 92 and it runs well. The car does not have the owners manual and I need one or some information like:

What does the windshield wiper switch under the dash do?
What does the shift lock button do?
What does putting the shifter in manual do?

What are some of the other neat things that are not obvious about the car?

Call 1800 SUBARU3. They will ship it out for free.

The windshield wiper switch is for summer/winter mode. It changes the position of the wiper so that in winter, your wiper does not get caught in the snow.

Shiftlock button on the 92/3 (hidden on the 94+) will release your park position on your shifter without pressing down on the brakes.

Manual is for a manual hold. You can in theory hold the gear position by pressing on the manual switch. I could be wrong. I had answer this before. If you could do a search, there should be a deeper and much more correct explantion on the manual button

from the owner's manual:

"When the MANUAL switch is presses while the gearshift selector lever is in position "2", "3", or "D", the transmission switches to MANUAL mode and the indicator light on the instrument panel lights up.
The MANUAL mode is used for driving on slippery surfaces such as snowy roads or in mud, or for smooth driving at a constant speed when going up slopes. Select the proper position according to the road condition.
To cancel the MANUAL mode, simply push the MANUAL switch again."

it basically stops the transmission from automatically downshifting from 2nd to 1st gear to prevent spinouts on slippery roads when you mash the throttle. seems like overkill on a AWD car. hope that helps,

you really should get an owner's manual - i often refer back to the section explaining what the footrest is used for. ahhh....that's right, now what the hell does this brake pedal do?

From my personal experiences the manual mode only has an effect while the gear selector is in 2nd or 3rd. It has no effect in my car while in 1st or "D".

The only reason I could see using this switch is to force the tranny to shift earlier than it normally would (or to start out in 2nd). I can't see this mode improving performance in any way.

Anyone else want to share their experiences/comments on this subject?

>it won't shift any earlier, i don't think - it just wont downshift. it not only won't improve performance, you'll lose performance with no downshift.

Anyone else want to share their experiences/comments on this subject?
>to be honest, i never used it. don't know if i ever will need to, either. i'll mess with it tomorrow just for curiosity.

If your in second and the manual button is pressed the car will stay in 2 even from a complete standstill if your in 3 the tcu selects between 2 or 3 . If your in D your tranny will also use 4. This is what I have noticed, I think the shift points are higher too.
